MILESTONE: World marks centenary of inventor of shorthand

Reports the New-York  Tribune:

Stenographers throughout the country yesterday observed the centenary of the birth of Sir Isaac Pitman, inventor of modern shorthand. Commemorative exercises were held in public schools, colleges and other institutions.

One can only imagine how stenographers will celebrate the bicentennial of his birth a century hence, in 2013.
