Is a question that has been definitively answered, explains the Washington Post:

The perfect physical man has been disclosed to the world in the person of James Thorpe, a 24-year-old student at the Carlisle Indian School.

This summer, at the Olympics games held in Stockholm, Sweden, he received the Czar of Russia’s trophy for winning the Decathlon and that of the King of Sweden for conquering in the Pentahlon, the two inclusive events comprehending all athletic prowess, and has just finished in America’s football season, acclaimed by ever one in the United States and Canada as the greatest all-around football player the ancient game has ever produced.

The article relates minute findings by a board of medical and physical experts regarding Thorpe’s extraordinary physique.  Will Thorpe earn the title of “World’s Greatest Athlete,” even “Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century“? A century hence will the Washington Post ask whether Thorpe was the greatest Olympian of all time?

Time will tell.  In the meantime, one hopes that Thorpe will live long and prosper.
